New CONCERT BAND Titles for 2008
2008 marks an exciting era in band music for Carl Fischer Music. We continue to publish a well-rounded program of music for elementary schools all the way to university level. You will find more great music from established composers like Sean O’Loughlin, Joseph Compello, Larry Clark, Andrew Balent, Paul Basler, Carl Strommen, and Alan Lee Silva. And this year, we have added wonderful new composers such as Bill Calhoun, Ed Kiefer, and Gregory Rudgers to our catalog. We also continue our heritage of fine marches with more offerings in the Authentic Fillmore Series edited by Robert E. Foster. For the advanced levels we provide a new David Maslanka work and a re-promotion of a classic Theodore Presser title, “Elegy for a Young American,” by Ronald Lo Presti.
The performances of the music are professionally played and recorded by the wonderful Trade Winds ensemble. By listening to the full-length mp3 recordings and viewing the non-printable PDF files on our website, we’re certain you’ll recognize the high quality of band music presented in this year’s release.

Jean-Baptiste Arban
Dramatic Masterpieces for the Cornetist Book/CD:
Fantasies for Cornet and Piano
(Les Chefs d’oevre dramatiques du cornettiste:
Fantasies de salon pour cornet a pistons et piano)
Cornet and Piano ( Book and CD)
|
Jean-Baptiste Arban (1825-1889) wrote and arranged over 300 pieces of music, with his cornet a pistons solos being the most important to trumpet and cornet players. After his death, much of his work fell into obscurity during the twentieth century. Rediscovering Arban’s masterful music was the motivation for compiling this collection of cornet pieces. Included pieces are: “Variations Brilliantes,” “Fantaisie brillante sur l’air populaire de Marlborough,” “Fantaisie brillante sur des motifs de La Cenerentola de Gioachino Rossini,” “Le Pre aux Clercs,” “Romance de Mignon de Ambroise Thomas,” among other brilliant works. This collection of solos represents a very important piece of Arban’s legacy. Includes a piano accompaniment audio CD for effective practice.

Concerto No. 22 in A minor
By Giovanni Battista Viotti
Edited by Fritz Kreisler
Violin and Piano
Viotti’s Concerto No. 22 in A minor was a great performance favorite of violin pedagogue Fritz Kreisler, both with orchestra and piano reduction. This new edition contains Kreisler’s original piano reduction and cadenzas, which serve not only as accompaniment but enhance the piece by adding new melodic lines and counterpoint. Along with his bowings and fingerings, Kreisler’s edition of the Concerto No. 22 will restore it to its rightful place as a true masterpiece for violin performance. For advanced players.
